St Peter's is a beautiful medieval parish church in the middle of historic Canterbury, a very short distance from the Cathedral.
In 2013 members of the parish approached professional Kent based iconographer and noted teacher Peter Murphy to ask if he could begin tutoring icon painting classes using the church as a studio.
The initial three, week long courses in April, July and October 2013, were a spectacular success and resulted in the scheduling of additional courses for 2014. More importantly, these initial courses have led, with the approval of the Bishop of Dover, to the establishment of The St Peter's Centre For Sacred Art. The centre, in addition to running three annual week long courses from 2016, has started to take students who wish to make a more comprehensive practical and theoretical study of iconography on a part time basis, with three days contact time each month on the Iconostasis Programme, described more fully if you click the link in the menu above.
